Three Places to Get Locally Roasted Coffee on the Forgotten Coast

05/31/2021 By Gulf Coastal Properties

The Forgotten Coast is all about local establishments and a more laid-back old-Florida type of lifestyle. It is full of cool and unique local businesses including many great restaurants and boutique-type stores. Did you know that the Forgotten Coast is home to three local independent coffee roasters? Making it even cooler to those with a caffeine addiction.Three Places to Get Locally Roasted Coffee on the Forgotten Coast

Apalachicola Chocolate and Coffee Company

This roaster is located on Market Street in Apalachicola in a building that is over 100 years old. This business fits right in with the historic downtown Apalachicola landscape in both its building and its one-of-a-kind product. Kirk and Faith Lynch are the owners, now locals who fell in love with the Forgotten Coast after vacationing in the area for years. Kirk was once a chef in the Caribbean, he now enjoys being in the kitchen of the coffee shop and behind the roasting machine. Faith can be found chatting and laughing with customers upfront. It is a great place to enjoy locally roasted coffee, great pastries, and the company of local residents.

Bayside Coffee Company

Located along Highway 98 in Eastpoint Florida. Much of the time the owner Matt Lee is behind the counter in a building that was once an oyster plant. This is the newest of local coffee roasters in the Forgotten Coast as the store opened in May 2020. Bayside purposely makes sure to source only the freshest coffee and roasts in small 12 pound batches. For even more opportunities to enjoy Bayside coffee check out the coffee truck run by Megan Lee (Matt’s wife) on St. George Island.

Zen Coffee Roasters

Zen Coffee is not available in a storefront or café, this local gem is only sold at area farmer’s markets including the Apalachicola Farmers Market and the Carrabelle Country Farmers Market. John, the owner, grew up vacationing at his grandparent’s home in Lanark Village in the summers and decided to make Lanark his home in search of a slower-paced life. The special thing about Zen Coffee Roasters, in addition to being locally owned and roasted, is that they will take special orders and roast the particular bean that you are looking for.

There are so many reasons to love the Forgotten Coast, that is why so many people that vacation and visit here end up living here at some point. Just like all of these great coffee roaster business owners that now call this amazing area of Florida their home.
