Mexico Beach Tops List of Florida's Most Underrated Beaches

Florida is known as the state surrounded by water and full of great sandy beaches. Every year millions of people flock to Florida’s shores to enjoy a piece of the tropical paradise for themselves. What if you prefer to enjoy the beach in a much more quiet and relaxed sort of way? You want to find a beach that the crowds aren’t flocking to.

This is where a list of Florida’s most underrated beaches would serve you well. Beaches that offer plenty of things to do, but are little known so they don’t draw the larger crowds that say Miami does.

Mexico Beach is one of those great underrated Florida beaches, in fact, is was named at the top of Trips to Discover’s 13 Underrated Beaches on the Gulf Coast of Mexico.

Here is what Trips to Discover had to say about Mexico Beach:

“Located 20 miles east of Panama City, Mexico Beach is a blend of preserved natural beauty and small-town charm. Perfect for one of Florida’s famed sunny days, spend your afternoons here swimming in the Gulf of Mexico, shelling for treasures and watching the dolphins playing at sunset. A nature lover’s paradise, here you can often spot numerous species of birds including bald eagles, osprey, pelicans in addition to loggerhead turtles.”

Mexico Beach Tops List of Florida's Most Underrated Beaches

We agree that Mexico Beach is a great place to visit but we think it is even better to live here. Who doesn’t dream about living on a quiet stretch of warm sandy beach?

Mexico Beach has been nicknamed by some as “Mayberry on the Water.” It is a family-friendly small town where you can walk down the street and expect to have a friendly greeting and smile from other residents. Mexico Beach prides itself on being hospitable.

Mexico Beach is a town of just 1,200 people with a very laid back, relaxed, and friendly lifestyle. The highlight of Mexico Beach is of course its five-mile stretch of sugar-white sand beaches met by bright turquoise water. Residents enjoy swimming, fishing, SCUBA diving, beachcombing, bike riding, and any other outdoor activity possible.

There is a short stretch of local shops to enjoy in the downtown area of Mexico Beach including beachwear stores, gift shops, restaurants with some of the best seafood around, cafes, rental shops, and a few grocery stores.  Some stores are still rebuilding from hurricane Michael in 2018, but this small town is still bustling with laid back beach life.

Homes in Mexico Beach are a mix of ranch ramblers, low rise condos, and tall colorful homes with multi-level decks and balconies to enjoy the stunning water views of the gulf coast. The median home price in Mexico Beach is $210,000.
